James Robert Crane (born January 17th 1954) is an American businessman born in Houston, Texas. Crane is the chairman and chief executive officer of Crane Capital Group, Crane Worldwide Logistics and Crane Freight & Shipping. He also is the chairman and owner of the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB).

In 1998, Crane was the largest contributor for the $1.2 million improvement to CMSU’s baseball stadium. CMSU baseball stadium. The stadium was designated James R. Crane Stadium.

Later, after Crane obtained equity backing he initially offered $36 per-share for EGL, but Apollo then engaged in a bidding war and the shareholders eventually went with the Apollo/CEVA offer of $47.50 per share. He was opposed to the EGL and CEVA merger.

After graduating from the college Crane was a follower of his father and entered the insurance industry. He relocated to Houston in the year 1980. Then, the following month, in 1984 Crane obtained $1000 from his younger sister. Then, he created Eagle USA Airfreight, an airline freight logistics company.
