McDonalds UK pulls Big Mac Chicken from menu after it proves too popular

It recently got a run here as part of Macca’s limited edition summer menu, but it turns out the Chicken Big Mac is too popular for its own good.

McDonald’s in the UK has been forced to pull the burger, which is a Big Mac with two chicken tenders instead of the usual beef patties, after the fast food chain was unable to keep up with massive demand for the item.

The Big Mac Chicken arrived in British outlets on February 2, with plans for it to be available until March 15.

But on Friday Macca’s UK released a statement confirming it would be discontinued early after overwhelming demand.

“Well, that escalated quickly. Your love for the limited edition Chicken Big Mac knew no bounds and it’s sold out almost everywhere," @McDonaldsUk tweeted.

“Thank you for lovin’ it even more than we thought you would, it’ll be back soon.”

The announcement was met with a “devastated” reaction from fans, some of whom complained they hadn’t even had a chance to try it yet.

“Come on McDonald’s not even had a chance to go and try it, now you have sold out???” one tweeted.

“Back soon? Are you serious, just make it permanent!!!! It was the best thing I’ve ever eaten at McDonald’s!” another upset customer tweeted.

“To be fair I expected this cause I tried it, it was definitely amazing to try and was something different,” another fan said.

“Hopefully it comes back soon and hopefully you consider it to be a permanent item on the menu.”

But not everyone was sad to see the burger go early, with some saying it had been “bland” in taste or just OK.

Here in Australia, Macca's has just released a limited edition Chicken McNuggets box to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The box features a pop-out heart with the tagline “I’m lovin’ you” — perfect for the romantically-inclined Macca's fan.

“We know how much Macca’s fans love our Chicken McNuggets, so what better way to spread the love this Valentine’s Day than with our most romantic box yet,” Amanda Nakad, marketing director at McDonald’s Australia said.

“Whether you’re dropping in for a quick bite, picking up dinner for a Galentine’s Day gathering, or using McDelivery to send treats to someone special, Macca’s has you covered this Valentine’s Day.”
